Newcastle United fans have taken to social networking site Twitter to have their say on Thierry Henry’s comments about the club.
The Arsenal legend controversially said on the Sky Sports Now show on Sky Sports News HQ on Friday morning (February 12) that Newcastle are not a big club.
“Having a big stadium and big fanbase doesn’t make you a big club. It’s what you have inside the stadium and how many trophies you have that makes you a big club.
“So the capacity of them being a big club is definitely there, but are they a big club really? You have to show your trophies. How many titles or cups did you win?
“I am not saying that just about Newcastle, it goes with everyone. You have to show what you have one. They have the potential to be a big club, definitely, those fans are amazing. It is always hard to play there, but big club? I’m not sure.”
Henry’s comments are controversial, as Newcastle are widely regarded as a big club. The Premier League outfit regularly get over 45,000 fans for their home games at St. James’ Park.
However, the Magpies are not a successful club and also got relegated to the Championship in 2009.
Steve McClaren’s side are struggling for survival in the English top flight at the moment and are currently just a point above the relegation zone.
Newcastle fans are hugely passionate, and Henry’s comments understandably did not go down well with them.
Following the Frenchman’s remarks, Newcastle fans took to Twitter to have their say.
Below are some of the best comments:
Aye very demanding Thierry Henry. We've demanded we don't; get relegated last two seasons. #nufc— Magpie Ranger (@NUFC_OurClub) February 12, 2016
@EveningChron and what does terry Henry know about nufc?!!!— Dave.A (@daveaitman) February 12, 2016
Thierry Henry-wonderful footballer, woeful pundit. Age old "unrealistic fans" rhetoric regarding #NUFC. Snooze fest man.— Jenky (@_Jenky88) February 12, 2016
Terry Henry calling #NUFC fans "too demanding"... Unreal— iwantcurlyhair2 (@Iwantcurlyhair2) February 12, 2016
I see that Henry is also peddling the "big expectations" line of #nufc fans so he got that wrong too. Yes some may but we're not a daft lot.— Jonathan Grieve (@jonniegrieve) February 12, 2016
@SkySportsNewsHQ Henry is wrong. Trophies measure success. NUFC is a big club they are just not a successful one.— Frank Keegan (@KeeganBig) February 12, 2016
