Root scores another brilliant 100 making his Sports Personality of the Year omission seem even more bizarre.

If there has been one player in England's Test, ODI and T20 side who has managed to dig the side out of some pretty poor positions over the last two years, it has to be Joe Root

The Yorkshire batsman had a brilliant 2015, scoring the second most runs in a calendar year in  test cricket for England and the most runs in all forms of cricket, with smashing 2,131.

And that form has carried on to 2016, with Root scoring back-to-back 100s in England's One Day series with South Africa.

While England's middle order collapsing around him during the fourth ODI, Root mustered a brilliant 109 to help his side to 262-10 in 47 overs.

With Root's excellent form continuing, there has been plenty of praise for the batsmen, including from former Leicester City and Spurs hero and Match of the Day host, Gary Lineker who took to Twitter after Root's hundred to tweet:

Of course he had a cheeky pop about Root's boyish looks, but after the Yorkshireman's omission from the Sports Personality of the Year award last year, plenty of fans let Lineker know about it after his tweet:
