Fans react on Twitter as Steven Fletcher puts in magical full debut for Marseille

The Scottish international was exceptional for Marseille yesterday.

It certainly was a shock transfer on deadline day - as Scotland international Steven Fletcher headed to Marseille on loan from Sunderland.

The shock move came about as it was made clear to Fletcher he was set to become a fringe player under the management of Sam Allardyce.

With his contract up in the summer he wanted out and he is now trying to earn himself a future with Marseille during his loan stint.

Yesterday excelled on his full debut for the club. He set up Romain Alessandrini for the opening Marseille goal with a delightful backheel and then scored the second in the 88th minute as Marseille won their French Cup tie.

The man-of-the-match performance did come against an amateur side in Trelissac but it still caught the eye of the French press who praised him for his performance.

It was probably the best Fletcher has played in many months, as his form with Sunderland was not exactly eye-catching toward the end.

His performance of course caught the eye of plenty of fans on Twitter.

Some were keen to point out Sunderland should have kept him, others pointed out this was a French fourth division side whilst others simply could not care less.
