Billy Sharp and Nicky Ajose combined have 28 goals this season, Leeds United have scored just 29 in the Championship

The pair have been in great form for Sheffield United and Swindon Town.

One of the main reasons behind Leeds United's lower standing in the Championship this season has been a lack of goals.

The club have just 29 goals in the league this season - only six teams have scored less.

Chris Wood has struggled with fitness which has not helped whilst the other strikers at the club have been neither here nor there - hence Steve Evans desire to bring a new attacker in on loan.

But an alarming fact for Leeds fans might be the statistic compared to the goals scored by two players they let go this summer.

Nicky Ajose failed to get a chance at Leeds after being signed by Dave Hockaday. He impressed on loan at Crewe Alexandra but was flogged to League One Swindon Town in the summer.

Billy Sharp had his moments at Leeds but struggled for consistency. He headed for Sheffield United, also in League One.

The pair have been in great form this season. Ajose has netted 14 goals in 26 games for the club. Sharp has been as streaky as ever but when he gets on a run he stays on it. He recently scored in seven league games in a row and also has 14 goals this season.

Between the rejected Leeds pair there is a grand total of 28 goals, one less than what Leeds have managed in the league this season and only six less than Leeds in all competitions.

Perhaps Leeds should have held on to one of these forwards this term and given them another chance to have an impact on the first-team.
