Twitter reacts to Martin Samuelsen's performance, including Lineker and ex-West Ham stars

West Ham-owned Martin Samuelsen starred for Peterborough United against West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday night.

Peterborough United were cruelly beaten on penalties by West Bromwich Albion in their FA Cup replay on Wednesday night - but Martin Samuelsen certainly caught the eye.

The two teams drew 2-2 at The Hawthorns last month, and the Baggies faced a trip to the League One side on Wednesday evening as they looked to avoid a shock exit.

Jon Taylor's opener put Peterborough in front, and after Darren Fletcher's equaliser tied the game up, it went all the way to penalties, with West Brom eventually prevailing to go through and face Reading in the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Only one player was the talk of Twitter during and after the game though, and that was Peterborough playmaker Martin Samuelsen, who is currently on loan from West Ham United.

The 18-year-old Norwegian left Manchester City for West Ham last summer, and has been farmed out to Peterborough to give him some first-team experience.

Few could have expected him to shine against Premier League opposition, but that's exactly what he did, producing superb technique and outstanding skill on numerous occasions, leaving the West Brom defence bamboozled.

A host of rival players such as Aaron McCarey, Dominic Iorfa, Shane Duffy and Paddy Madden all took to Twitter to rave about Samuelsen's performance, as did former West Ham players such as Hogan Ephraim, Danny Gabbidon and Matthew Etherington.

Match of the Day host Gary Lineker suggested that Samuelsen - or Peterborough director of football Barry Fry - was man of the match, with players past and present queuing up to hail West Ham's teenage wonderkid; no doubt music to Slaven Bilic's ears.

Here are some of the reactions from players past and present after Samuelsen's performance against West Brom on Wednesday...
