The Everton and Tottenham Hotspur stars have been England's young shining lights this season.
The midfielder has been one of the stars of the show for the Foxes this season as they have taken the league by storm to currently find themselves five points clear at the top.
That form has caused people to now suggest that he should be part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2016.
And Murphy says he should be on the plane to France, adding that he is on the same level as Alli and Barkley, who look certain to be in the squad given their form.
“In the midfield area Roy Hodgson has a lot of talent; some experience and some young legs,” he told Talksport.
“You’ve got Dele Alli and Ross Barkley, the two younger shining lights this season who you’d say have to go, and rightly so.
“But Drinkwater, he is certainly playing as well as any other English midfielder, I’d probably put him in the same league as Alli and Barkley. Right now he should be in the squad.”
Drinkwater should certainly be in contention for a place in England’s squad this summer given how he has performed for the high flying Foxes.
He has enjoyed better form than those who would be considered ahead of him; with the likes of Jordan Henderson, James Milner and Fabian Delph all having struggled to find their best form this season.
Hodgson is well known for selecting players he knows though, and it will be interesting to see if he changes that tactic to include Drinkwater in his final tournament squad.
