Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said any speculation about players moving between now and the end of the season is a waste of time.
Martinez was specifically asked at his press conference about the possibility of club captain Phil Jagielka leaving the club to move to China.
The Toffees boss told reporters at his pre-match press conference ahead of his side's clash with West Bromwich Albion, as shown on the club's YouTube channel: "We’re not in a situation to lose players, Phil Jagielka is our club captain and has been great in the last two games. I can tell you there is no substance whatsoever in that rumour.
"At the moment the only we are concentrating on is where we are at after the January window. The January window has been a real success for us
"Any speculation is a waste of time. Once we get to the end of this season it will be a completely different window and a completely different situation - and we'll use that window again to try to make our squad stronger and to try to use it to our advantage."
Martinez also suggested there was no contract from the MLS about a possible move for goalkeeper Tim Howard, who has been linked with a return home, while the Spaniard was also asked about his own future after being linked with Inter Milan.
He replied to that particular question, saying: “Is this another Phil Jagielka to China rumour?”
Other topics that arose were the possibility of an Everton takeover but Martinez said he's had no direct contact with any potential investor and that there was nothing to comment on at this stage.
