According to the Daily Mail, Manchester City have made contact with Barcelona midfielder Sergio Busquets over a summer move to the Etihad Stadium.
City are ready to embark on arguably their biggest summer since the Abu Dhabi United Group took over the club in the summer of 2008, setting off the club's incredible spending.
With manager Manuel Pellegrini on his way out and Pep Guardiola - arguably the world's finest coach - arriving from Bayern Munich, a full-scale overhaul of the City squad is expected this summer, with Guardiola no doubt looking to shape his own squad.
City fans will be hoping that the Spaniard looks to lure some of his former Barcelona superstars to the Etihad Stadium, and whilst it isn't Lionel Messi or Andres Iniesta, Sergio Busquets appears to be a major target for City.
Earlier this week, Busquets told ESPN that he would be honoured to work with Guardiola again, given that he was the manager who gave him his Barcelona debut way back in 2008.
Now, the Daily Mail report that City have made contact over a deal for Busquets this summer, making their first big step towards signing the 28-year-old defensive midfielder.
With Yaya Toure expected to leave the club this summer, City should be looking to sign at least one new midfielder, and given the club's problems in defence, adding a protector in front of the back four like Busquets would be a smart move.
The Spanish international won't come cheap, but given City's funds and the presence of Guardiola at the club, they may have hope of securing a blockbuster deal for Busquets.
