Martin Samuelsen proves emphatically that he is a superstar in the making

The West Ham United player has everything in his locker to be a future Hammers great.

West Ham United fans will have watched Wednesday evening’s FA Cup fourth round replay between Peterborough United and West Bromwich Albion with only one player on their mind, and he did not disappoint.

In fact, the Hammers’ 18-year-old midfielder Martin Samuelsen – who is currently on loan at the League One club – exceeded expectations against his top flight opponents.

We all knew the young Norwegian was talented but against the Baggies he was nothing short of sensational, outwitting far more experienced players time and again and running the show for Peterborough.

Unfortunately he was not able to inspire his loan club to a famous victory and he would go on to miss one of the two penalties in the shoot-out that broke Posh hearts.

However, that should take absolutely nothing away from Samuelsen’s performance, which proved emphatically that this West Ham youngster is ready for the Premier League.

Fans can get carried away with the next big thing but the summer signing is something else, a composed, confident, innately talented footballer who glides past players, rarely loses the ball and sets up attacks time and again.

Wednesday night proved West Ham have a gem on their hands and it is going to be exciting watching him develop in the years ahead.
