Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is impressed with the progress of Anthony Martial, particularly in recent games.
Speaking to the club's official website, Carrick described the impact the £36 million signing from AS Monaco is making on the team.
He said: "He makes it look so effortless. It almost looks like he’s not really sprinting but he has that burst of two or three yards to get past players.
"You certainly wouldn’t want to be defending against him one-on-one in the box because once he knocks it by you and gets that yard, he’s away! He’s been so effective for us in the last couple of games."
Carrick has played in central defence at various points over the past few seasons and so knows just how Martial's traits will be tricky to cope with.
He added that expectations of the Frenchman should remain realistic, explaining that Martial is just getting started. He said: "I think we have to understand that sometimes he might not be that shining light and have days when it’s not quite happening for him, and that’s understandable. But over time he’ll improve and I’ve seen a big improvement already in this short time. Hopefully that trend will continue and he’ll get better and better."
The 20-year-old scored on his debut against Liverpool earlier in the season, and has scored nine goals in all competitions for the Red Devils.
If he can reach and exceed a total of 15 between now and the end of the campaign then his first year in England will go down as a successful one regardless of where United finish.
It appears United have a real star on their hands, and the striker has a chance of becoming a star for France this summer at Euro 2016.
