Ray Wilkins compares Tottenham Hotspur star Dele Alli to former Arsenal and England midfielder David Platt

The Tottenham Hotspur star has been in fantastic form this season.

There is no doubt that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Dele Alli has been one of the revelations of the season so far.

Signed from MK Dons last winter he joined up with the club in the summer after an immediate return to Milton Keynes on loan.

His progress and impact has been outstanding.

He is now a regular in the Tottenham starting XI who are battling for the Premier League title and reamin in contention in the FA Cup and Europa League.

His goalscoring antics have been one of his most exceptional attributes, netting eight times this season - including a potential goal of the season candidate against Crystal Palace recently.

Speaking on Sky Sports News today (10/02/2016) former Chelsea and Aston Villa assistant boss Ray Wilkins has compared him to a former Arsenal and England star:

"He reminds me very much of, he is in the midfield mould of a David Platt. Where he plays slightly further forward but given an opportunity to score this young man does exactly that.

"I saw this game (v Crystal Palace) and it was the first time I had seen him live. I thought 'I just want to see this young man play'. That's why I put him alongside David Platt because he wasn't really involved in the game totally, but when it came to scoring he was right on the money.

"He did exactly the right thing and he knew where the goal was. I'm pleased he is English."

Platt was certainly a player who was capable of scoring goals from midfield but many a Spurs fan will believe that Alli is showing signs of being a more complete player than Platt did in his career.

Alli, being the ambitious young lad he is, will certainly hope to embark on a career path similar to Platt's - but will also hope to surpass his achievements.
