West Ham United boss Slaven Bilic singles out 'brilliant' Michail Antonio for praise

West Ham United beat Liverpool 2-1 in FA Cup action yesterday evening.

Slaven Bilic has singled out Michail Antonio for praise on West Ham United’s official site, following his side’s 2-1 win over Liverpool last night.

Antonio scored West Ham’s first goal in the contest, but it was the role he performed for the team that impressed Bilic the most.

The former Nottingham Forest man was forced to fill in out of position at full-back for a period of the match, but he looked comfortable throughout.

And Bilic said: “I am proud of the boys and they left their hearts on the pitch. They did everything, we had injuries and had players who were not playing in their positions like Antonio but they still did a brilliant job.

“They were fighting and playing football. We were defending, attacking and as a manager that is all you can ask from your players.”

Antonio first half strike for West Ham was the first piece of notable action in a memorable night of FA Cup action at Upton Park.

The Hammers had looked to be on the way to victory when Antonio put them into the lead, but Philippe Coutinho struck an equaliser in the second period.

The two sides could then not be separated right until the final minute of extra-time, when Angelo Ogbonna rose the highest from a set-piece to send the Hammers through.

West Ham are now set to play Championship side Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park in the fifth round of the cup competition.
