Tottenham Hotspur fans react on Twitter to Shaq Coulthirst's Peterborough performance

Tottenham fans had a mixed reaction to Shaq Coulthirst's Peterborough performance.

Shaq Coulthirst left Tottenham in January after several years in their academy, and is getting the chance to show what he can do.

Spurs coach Mauricio Pochettino did not feel he was ready to challenge for a place in the first team despite a lack of alternatives to Harry Kane.

He signed permanently with Peterborough United, and has gone straight into their first team. He netted in the first FA Cup fourth round game against West Brom, a 2-2 draw, and was given another start in the replay.

With last night's return game televised on the BBC, Tottenham fans got a chance to check out the nearly man who was once prolific for their under-19 Next Gen Series side.

Coulthirst was eager to make an impact, but looked like a player still with a lot to learn. At 21, now getting his first taste of regular competitive football which is not a loan spell, that is to be expected.

He worked hard for his side, but was also guilty of trying too hard individually, but provided a useful outlet for the League One underdogs.

The youngster was withdrawn after 83 minutes for former Spurs academy teammate Souleymane Coulibaly, while his strike partner was another ex-Tottenham forward Lee Angol.

The reaction to Coulthirst's efforts was certainly mixed, but it was hard to say from the display that he could have made an impact at Spurs this season. One for the future perhaps, but at the same time it is important he gets the first team chances and went his own way.
