The former Swiss international has clearly been impressed by the Spurs defence this season.
Tottenham Hotspur are currently in a genuine fight for the Premier League title for the first time in many years. After victory over Watford at the weekend Spurs find themselves second in the table with shock leaders Leicester City the only team above them.
The form of Spurs this season has certainly taken many by surprise and pinpointing the reason behind their success is certainly a challenge.
But one former Tottenham player has one answer to explain their current form. Speaking to Sky Sports News this week (09/02/2016) Swiss defender Ramon Vega, who spent four years as a Spurs player, believes the defence has been key to Tottenham's success:
"Our defence has been well, well organised Only 19 goals we have received.
"For Tottenham, I think that is a credit for the defence to start with.
"If you don't concede you will always be on a winning formula. The defence, that is very important. When we pretty much had a good successful run at Spurs with me and Sol Campbell at the back. When you don't concede - you win at the front."
Spurs did well to strengthen the defence in the summer. Toby Alderweireld has been one of the best signings of the summer whilst Kevin Wimmer has supplied able assistance in times of need. Kieran Trippier has also proven a fantastic alternative to Kyle Walker at right-back.
Tottenham have the best defensive record in the Premier League and that is no doubt playing a significant factor in their current lofty league position.
Hopefully they can continue this form and put in a real title challenge this year.
