Kevin Stewart made the most of his opportunity once again for Liverpool by impressing against West Ham in the FA Cup.
The 22-year-old featured in a defensive midfield role and looked at home competing against Premier League opposition.
Jurgen Klopp has been keen to give chances to young players and Stewart appears to be a real find, willing to get stuck in and confident shielding the back four.
Spurs released him in 2014, and he followed ex-academy coach Alex Inglethorpe to Liverpool, who was well aware of his talent.
Under-21 coach Michael Beale told the Liverpool Echo yesterday that Stewart felt 'hard done by' at Tottenham, while at Liverpool the academy staff have overseen his transition from full-back to defensive midfielder, seeing his potential at the position.
Stewart had a loan spell at Swindon last season, and there is a hope at the club that he can replicate the success Francis Coquelin, 24, enjoyed at Arsenal a year ago, belatedly establishing himself in the team as a key player in defensive midfield.
Liverpool fans delighted with his performance against the Hammers took to Twitter to express their delight at being able at having him in the squad, and mocking Tottenham's decision to let him go.
Tottenham appear to be coping perfectly well without Stewart, but Reds supporters are convinced they have landed a gem at the North London side's expense...
Kevin Stewart has been superb. Spurs made a mistake releasing him.— Luke Haynes (@LukeHaynes91) February 9, 2016
I have to reason to doubt any of Kevin Stewart's decisions. He's already left Spurs to join us, so he knows what he's doing.— Paul (@Kolology) February 9, 2016
Kevin Stewart has been a standout here know he's not really young but very surprising Spurs let him go— Jamesy (@jamesyboy8) February 9, 2016
@kop_zone play him there for the rest of season. Have Stewart in his place . Cannot believe Spurs let him go. Not often that happens to us— Klopp That (@g7paul) February 9, 2016

Obvious now why Inglethorpe thought so highly of Stewart at Tottenham.— Andy Duffy (@AndyDuffy85) February 10, 2016
