The Newcastle United youngster would be a great temporary addition at Leeds United.
Much has been said about Leeds United’s need for additional fire-power this season, but with promotion now seemingly beyond them and Championship safety all but secured, the remainder of this campaign may be more about building for the future than anything else.
In that regard Leeds would be wise to put in a phone call to Newcastle United and discuss the possibility of bringing in Adam Armstrong on loan next season.
The 19-year-old is currently on a season-long loan at League One club Coventry City and he has been nothing short of sensational to date, scoring 17 goals in 25 appearances.
Newcastle fans are well aware of Armstrong’s talent but few would have expected him to do quite so well at the Sky Blues. However, Magpies manager Steve McClaren may feel he is not yet ready for Premier League football week in, week out.
The clamour for his inclusion will be considerable but Newcastle made no secret of their desire to sign a new striker in January and while Seydou Doumbia is only on loan it would be no surprise if they brought in another experienced forward in the summer.
With Ayoze Perez and Aleksandar Mitrovic also on Newcastle’s books that could mean Armstrong steps up his development with a loan move to a Championship side, and if so Leeds should act quickly to seal a deal.
Armstrong is exactly the kind of player Leeds need and he could excel at Elland Road.
So while next season is still some way off, Whites owner Massimo Cellino should make the call to at least test the water.
