Mahrez has been Leicester’s main creative force this term, with the Algerian international seemingly playing with masses of freedom.
Mahrez scored a wonderful solo goal in Leicester’s 3-1 victory over Manchester City last weekend, and Ranieri admits that he cannot find any other player in the world to compare the 24-year-old to.
“He goal at Manchester was crazy,” Ranieri said. “He knew they expected him on his left foot, because that is his preferred foot, and instead he exploded with his right.
"This year he has given us incredible magic. Technically I don’t know who I can compare him with, he has immense quality and is our reference point: when we need to create, we give him the ball.”
Mahrez’s incredible season has seen him score 15 goals and claim nine assists in just 26 appearances in all competitions.
His form has been a major reason behind Leicester’s simply staggering rise to the top of the Premier League table.
The Foxes are currently five points clear of their nearest rivals, Tottenham Hotspur, in the top-flight standings, and they are now the bookies’ favourites to win the title in May.
Ranieri’s side’s next match comes against Arsenal at the weekend, and if they are able to pick up a victory at the Emirates Stadium, they will further consolidate their place at the top of the Premier League pile.
