China have brought a number of high profile players to their domestic league in recent times, and Payet is the next man to be lined up for a move.
West Ham supporters are understandably desperate to see him remain at Upton Park, but there is a realisation that the deal represents a staggering profit on a player they only bought in during the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman is one of West Ham’s most integral players, and he is already a fans’ favourite, but many supporters have suggested that such a valuable deal for a player who is nearly 29, is simply too good to turn down.
It remains to be seen whether Payet would want a move to China, but West Ham fans are starting to fear the worst, despite the attacking midfielder committing his future at the club on Twitter this morning.
Here is the best reaction to the latest Payet rumours from West Ham fans on social media.
West Ham have to be realistic. They won't get CL even with Payet. Take the 38m and reinvest in the summer! #WHUFC— Blake (@maudio_official) February 9, 2016
No player is bigger than the club. I would love Payet to stay but its his decision. We either pocket £38m or keep the player #WHUFC— Darren Smith 14 (@darrensmith849) February 9, 2016
Can't sell Payet surely! We couldn't get a replacement on the same level, and we'd have to wait till summer to even try #whufc— Ion-Man (@KieranIon27) February 9, 2016
Payet will want to play in Euros, and to do that he has to be in Europe end of story, we won't even consider £38m— max (@maxbaileywhu) February 9, 2016
Never advocate a club selling the star player, but Payet turns 29 next month. If the club has faith in their scouts, take the £38m. Risky.— Harry (@Bruxinho33) February 9, 2016
Would you take £38m for Payet? 29 next month...— Sam Martin (@samuelmmartin) February 9, 2016
But I do love him so.
