City are gearing up for a major summer, with manager Pep Guardiola set to replace Manuel Pellegrini in the Etihad Stadium dugout at the end of the season.
The Spaniard is expected to overhaul the City squad, which is currently sitting six points adrift of league leaders Leicester City - and new signings are almost a given.
Now, The Sun report that City are interested in signing West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet, and are willing to bid as much as £30m to land the Frenchman, though it's also stated that Arsenal and Chelsea are also keen on Payet.
Payet, 28, has been a sensation in the Premier League ever since joining the Hammers from Marseille over the summer, and has produced a host of dazzling performances on his way to notching six goals and four assists this term.
Reports from the Daily Mirror suggested that Payet already wants a new contract worth £125,000-a-week as a reward for his performances, but West Ham released a statement on their official website earlier today stating that isn't true, but negotiations are underway about a new deal.
City could yet look to spoil West Ham's plans with a blockbuster move for Payet, but it would be something of a surprise to see them splash £30m on a player who will be 29 by the time next season starts.
City already have a number of ageing plays on the books, such as Bacary Sagna, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Demichelis and Yaya Toure, and adding another player near the age of 30 shouldn't be in their plans moving forward under Guardiola.
