Payet, 28, joined West Ham from Marseille over the summer, and arrived with a huge reputation, having racked up 16 assists for the Ligue 1 giants last season.
The French international has taken the Premier League by storm, producing a number of dazzling displays on his way to notching six goals and four assists this term.
Now considered to be one of the outstanding players in the Premier League, Payet is the driving force behind this impressive West Ham team - but it seems the wants to be rewarded for his great start to life in English football.
The Mirror report that Payet wants a wage increase of almost £50,00-a-week, meaning his deal would total £125,000-a-week - huge money for West Ham.
Yet, if the club really wants to move forward, then keeping Payet will be a necessity - and manager Slaven Bilic knows that. The Mirror quote him as saying that he wants Payet to stay with the Hammers, but knows that a rival could ultimately prise him away from the club in the future.
"We are moving and the club is moving, with the new stadium, the revenue and everything," said Bilic. "But the most important move is to keep your best players and Dimitri Payet is our best player, I have no problem whatsoever saying that. And of course I would love to have him happy, long term, at the club."
"He signed only a few months ago but he has made a huge impact - a very, very huge impact - and while he has a long contract he is in a good position. It is not only the staff and the players but also the fans and the board, we all want to keep him for a long, long time."
"There is always a chance [that he could be signed by a rival]. Nowadays the contracts don’t protect the other clubs from trying to get a player. Sometimes it unsettles the player, sometimes it gets them a new contract. Other times, the club sells the player," he added.
Does Payet deserve a new contract at West Ham?
