Newcastle fans react on Twitter to Doumbia's performance for U21s

Newcastle United have a new striker in their ranks.

When Newcastle United completed the loan signing of AS Roma striker Seydou Doumbia in January, those familiar with the Ivory Coast international knew the Magpies had bagged a bargain.

The 28-year-old is exactly what Newcastle need as they bid to pull away from the relegation zone – an experienced front-man with a great strike rate and the apparent desire to prove himself in a new league.

Doumbia made his debut for Newcastle’s under-21s on Monday evening, and while he was unable to prevent his side losing 2-1 to Stoke City he showed glimpses of his undeniable talent during his 45-minute run-out.

What was most noticeable was his lack of match fitness and on this evidence he needs more time before he can start for Steve McClaren’s side in the Premier League.

But that will return with every training session and every appearance, be it for the under-21s or as a substitute for the first-team.

After the match against Stoke we took to Twitter to see what Newcastle fans thought of Doumbia’s performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:
