Brad Smith was a bright spot for Liverpool on a disappointing evening.
On a disappointing night for Liverpool, the performance of left-back Brad Smith was a real positive.
The 21-year-old has grasped each and every opportunity he has had in the first team this season, and last night away to West Ham was no different.
Smith featured for the entire 120 minutes and took until the second half of extra time before beginning to tire, showing real energy beforehand.
His performance impressed former Everton midfielder Kevin Kilbane, who told The BBC he felt Smith was a positive aspect of Liverpool's play.
He said: "Liverpool are playing well. You looked at the sides before and saw West Ham with much more experience. But Liverpool are keeping the ball well and playing with tempo and vigour. Brad Smith getting forward from left-back has been electric."
Liverpool lost the game 2-1 due to a last minute Angelo Ogbonna winner in extra time, sending them out of the FA Cup.
Smith's chances have come in cup competitions but the Australian defender is showing he would not let the Reds down if selected ahead of Alberto Moreno in the Premier League, and manager Jurgen Klopp may well be contemplating the possibility.
