Alex Smithies has replaced Rob Green as Queens Park Rangers' number one goalkeeper.

Alex Smithies has told Get West London that he still has a positive relationship with Rob Green despite replacing him in Queens Park Rangers’ team.

Green started the season as QPR’s first choice stopper, but Smithies has come into the starting line-up more recently.

The former Huddersfield Town stopper seems to be Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s first choice custodian, but Smithies insists his relationship with his experienced teammate has not been soured.

“I speak to Rob daily and he discuss things daily,” he said. “We always look at videos and discuss, with the keeper coach as well as Rob to try and improve.”

Smithies joined QPR from Huddersfield Town last summer, and he has had to bide his time.

The 25-year-old stopper only made three Championship appearances for Rangers during 2015, but since the turn of the year he has featured far more prominently.

Smithies has started in QPR’s last four league matches, and his performances have been very impressive.

The former England youth international has only conceded once during his last four appearances, and he has helped Rangers climb up to 13th place in the Championship table.
