The former Tottenham midfielder has raised doubts whether head coach Mauricio Pochettino will be able to juggle the Premier League with Europa League and FA Cup commitments.
“The big question mark is how will he prioritise and manage the team over the forthcoming weeks with the Europa League and FA Cup,” Murphy told talkSPORT.
“I think Pochettino quite fancies wanting to win the Europa League. As a European manager, it is a big feather in his cap if he can win that.
“What do you do? Where do you prioritise? They have got a huge backlog of fixtures coming up and it will be interesting to see how he manages it.”
While the Europa League is an attractive competition to win, at this stage of the season it is the Premier League that is going to be Pochettino’s main priority - or at least it should be.
Tottenham are just five points behind leaders Leicester City in second place in the Premier League table at the moment.
The North London outfit are ahead of Arsenal and Manchester City in the standings, and there is a very good chance that they could go on and win the title.
Pochettino is an intelligent manager, and one suspects that he will hatch a plan as the season progresses.
Winning the Europa League is going to guarantee Spurs Champions League football next season, but it is a knockout competition and anything is possible, and Spurs need to prioritise the Premier League from now on.
