The Reds take on the Hammers on Tuesday evening, as they travel to Upton Park to try to secure their passage into the fifth round of the FA Cup.
To do so, they will likely need to find a way to stop Frenchman Payet, who has arguably been the star man in Slaven Bilic’s side with a series of impressive performances this season.
Klopp though, says that he already has a plan to stop the midfielder, having come up against him when he played for former club Marseille.
“We [the coaching staff] played against Payet when he was at Marseille, so I knew him before,” he told liverpoolfc.com.
“[We] should not try to find a solution only for Payet, the solution is to avoid the passes to Payet. If he doesn't have the ball too often then it's not possible to have the biggest influence on the game.
“We have no player we can say, 'come on, and follow him, if necessary to the restroom'. We play our football. He can decide games, for sure, but only if we give him the opportunity.”
Payet is certainly the man that has caught the attention for the Hammers this season, but there are also several others who need to be closely watched.
Chief among them is captain Mark Noble, with him having enjoyed a fine season so far and showing his qualities on more than one occasion, most recently with his assist in the win over Aston Villa.
He, alongside defender Aaron Cresswell, is second in their assist charts so far this season, demonstrating there is more than one West Ham star Liverpool need to deal with in Tuesday’s clash.
