Rio Ferdinand raves about Sunderland’s Jermain Defoe


Jermain Defoe scored for Sunderland against Liverpool in the Premier League on Saturday.

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has spoken highly of Sunderland striker Jermain Defoe on social networking site Twitter.

Ferdinand was impressed with the former West Ham United striker’s goal against Liverpool away from home at Anfield at the weekend.

Defoe fired home the equaliser for the Black Cats in the 2-2 draw in the Premier League game in the 89th minute on Saturday afternoon.

Defoe is a proven goalscorer, and he will be important in Sunderland’s challenge to avoid relegation from the Premier League at the end of the season.

The 33-year-old striker has scored 10 goals and created nine chances in 21 Premier League games so far this campaign.

The Englishman has a pass accuracy of 77% and a shot accuracy of 70%, and has won six headers, 14 dribbles and eight tackles.

Sunderland are second from bottom in the Premier League table at the moment with 20 points from 25 matches, four points behind 17th-placed Newcastle United.
