Report: West Brom have begun talks with five first-team players, including James Morrison and Jonas Olsson, over new contracts

Tony Pulis appears to be keen to tie down the core of his side as they look to maintain their Premier League status.

West Brom have opened talks with five of their first-team players regarding potential new contracts, according to The Telegraph.

The Telegraph claims that Jonas Olsson, Craig Dawson, Gareth McAuley, James Morrison and Stephane Sessegnon are all holding discussions with the Baggies regarding their futures.

Dawson appears to be the first that will commit his future to the club, with The Telegraph stating that he is set to sign a three-year deal. But it now seems likely that the rest of the quintet will soon follow.

The news that five players are set to confirm their desire to stay at the Hawthorns will be a major boost to Tony Pulis as he looks to keep the club as far away from the relegation zone as possible.

Saturday's defeat to Newcastle has left West Brom 14th in the top flight, just six points ahead of the bottom three. And should the five players all confirm their commitment to the club, it will surely confirm that many in the squad still believe that the side are heading in the right direction.
