Newcastle United loanee was suspended for the fixture.
Florian Thauvin cut a frustrated figure as his loan club Marseille slipped to a defeat at home to Paris Saint Germain.
Thauvin is currently back on loan at his former club after a poor first half of the season at Newcastle United.
He was unable to play in the defeat to PSG after being sent off on his return a week earlier.
He could only watch on from the stands, and wave a flag in support, as Angel di Maria inspired the champions to a 2-1 win.
There was one bright spot, with another Newcastle loanee, Remy Cabella, scoring an inspired solo goal, running from his own half and smashing the ball home from 20 yards out.
Newcastle won their game at the weekend to rise out of the relegation zone into 17th place, while Marseille are a disappointing 10th place in Ligue 1.
With a bit of luck, Thauvin will be inspiring fans to wave their flags proudly over the coming months, rather than having to do it himself.
