Liverpool defender remains in first team set up despite rejecting deadline day move.

Liverpool defender Jose Enrique remains involved in the first team set up despite his failed deadline day move.

The Spaniard has not played a single Premier League game for the Reds this season, and was offered an escape route from Anfield by former side Newcastle United.

The Independent reported that the move broke down over Enrique's contract demands, much to the frustration of Liverpool fans who would like to see the high earner off the club's wage bill.

Enrique's deal expires at the end of this season, but it remains to be seen whether he will figure for the first team again.

He did feature in the FA Cup in the last round against Exeter City, although tonight's fourth round opponents West Ham pose a far more serious challenge to Liverpool's hopes of progressing in another cup competition.

Manager Jurgen Klopp has no intention of ostracising the 30-year-old, keeping him involved in training sessions rather than demoting him to the under-21s.

He trained with the team last night, and who knows, a role against West Ham could be an outside possibility?
