Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s 606 show on Sunday, Ian Wright has discussed the differences between Tottenham and Everton, suggesting that Spurs are a much more attractive proposition right now than the Toffees.
Wright: “You look at Spurs and it seems pretty attractive. They’ve got the new stadium, young players, most likely a lot more money is going to come into Spurs at some stage. That is quite an attractive proposition. Whereas I think for them [players] to go to Everton, without knowing what’s going on with the ground, if they’re going to be bought or not, it’s much more of a chance to take.”
Both Spurs and Everton are considered fairly similar teams, with young and prosperous managers who are set to grow with their sides over the coming years.
They both coach their teams to play attractive football, and have built young sides full of technically excellent players.
However, Spurs are currently doing much better in the league, sitting second in the table in a serious fight for the title, whilst the Toffees are only in eighth place.
It would be expected that both teams would look to sign similar level of player, due to the finances available, and the reputation both clubs have, but Wright believes Spurs are a much better proposition for players that Everton.
The Lilywhites are flying high in the league, have a new stadium lined up, and the potential to just keep growing.
Everton, on the other hand, are still in the midst of ownership talks, with no knowing how their future is going to unfold, meaning that they are a less stable club.
For Wright, he believes this makes Spurs a more attractive proposition, as players know exactly what they are joining if they were to sign for the North London club.
