The midfielder joined from Swansea City in the January transfer window.
The midfielder was one of several new faces to arrive at St James’ Park in the January transfer window as Steve McClaren spent heavily to help his side avoid relegation this season.
He made an instant impact on his debut as well, playing a big role in both his side’s goals in the 2-1 victory over West Ham United.
And Monk has backed him for success with the Magpies, saying that the club will make him feel important, which is something he will thrive on.
"I'm sure going to a club like Newcastle in front of that many fans and that type of club will suit him,” he told Sky Sports.
"A lot to do with Jonjo is motivation. He needs to be performing every single week and feel importance as a player. Newcastle will probably give him that.”
"It will be interesting to see. I'm sure he will go there and do well."
Steve McClaren will now be hoping that Shelvey can continue to impress in central midfield in the 13 games remaining.
They are firmly in a relegation race this season, and a player of his quality could ultimately be the difference between staying up and avoiding the drop.
He has every reason to try and perform well too, with a potential place in England’s squad for Euro 2016 up for grabs should he do enough to catch manager Roy Hodgson’s eye as he did during his time with Swansea.
