Everton boss Martinez has come under increased criticism this season.
Murphy said: “He’s taken stick there I don’t think he deserves. Some of the football I’ve seen Everton play this season has been sensational. Remember that a lot of their best players are really young lads, they’re going to be inconsistent.”
Murphy has praised the football that Everton have been playing, something that many people have done when watching the Merseyside outfit.
Their attacking football has been exceptional to watch, and has received praise from all corners, but criticism has been aimed at Martinez, and Everton, for the club’s inability to defend.
They have lost points from wining positions the most in the entire Premier League, and regularly gift the opposition goals due to some questionable defending.
However, Murphy believes much of this criticism is undeserved, as the way Everton have been conceding has been unlucky at times.
Most noticeably, the game against Chelsea last month ended in a 3-3 draw due to John Terry scoring an offside goal after the end of injury time.
These incorrect decisions are pushing Everton further down the league table than they should be, and their current eighth placing in the league table is far lower than they should be if fate was with the Toffees.
