Could Leicester City re-sign Esteban Cambiasso?

Esteban Cambiasso would be the perfect signing for Leicester City in the summer.

Leicester City's stunning win away at Manchester City at the weekend has set up the genuine possibility that the Foxes could go on and win the Premier League title.

Claudio Ranieri's side are top of the league, five points clear of second placed Tottenham, and leaves them in with a very strong chance of securing a Champions League spot.

It would take a monumental collapse to see Leicester fall away and finish outside the top four - currently 12 points clear of fifth placed Manchester United.

And this would set up the intrigue as to how Leicester would get on in Europe's elite competition, and keeping their star players is a must.

Just as exciting would be the possibility of re-signing last season's Supporters Player of the Year, Esteban Cambiasso.

The Argentine veteran left when his contract expired after just a single season, to play for Olympiakos.

He looks destined to be repaid with a league title of their own, with Olympiakos a whopping 19 points clear of AEK Athens.

Yet if they have Champions League football to offer of their own next season, Leicester may stand a fighting chance of convincing Cambiasso to re-sign for the club.

Doing so may not be so simple, given that he has a contract at the club until 2017, but whether this has a break clause of any sort is unclear.

Even for a small fee, bringing back Cambiasso would be a superb move. Leicester would need to add to their squad to balance Premier League and Champions League competition, and the Argentine's experience makes him the perfect candidate to help the dressing room adjust and prepare for the group stage matches.

Cambiasso will be 36 in August, but showed this season he can still play, helping Olympiakos to a win over Arsenal at The Emirates. The midfielder won the competition with Inter Milan in 2010 and his experience could be invaluable to Leicester if they can convince him.

There is plenty of football still to be played between now and May, but if Leicester can secure a top four place, as now expected, then looking at bringing back Cambiasso is worth investigating.
