Ben Davies has told Tottenham Hotspur’s official website that the North London club’s defenders all state before each match that if they keep a clean sheet they are confident of picking up the three points.
Spurs’ defence feel that there is enough attacking talent in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad to score in every match.
And Welsh international Davies says that opinion was proved correct again at the weekend, as Tottenham squeezed past Watford 1-0 thanks to a Kieran Trippier winner.
“Before the game as a back four we always have a chat and we always say if we do our jobs and keep a clean sheet we’ve got enough going forward to get a goal," Davies said. "This time a defender turned up with the goal and it was great to see Kieran get off the mark.
“Now we focus on the next one.”
Tottenham created numerous chances against Watford, but it looked set to be a frustrating afternoon for Pochettino’s side.
However, their persistence paid off just after the hour mark, with Trippier scoring his first goal for the club.
The win has lifted Tottenham up to second place in the Premier League table and they are mounting a genuine challenge for the title.
Tottenham are currently five points behind leaders Leicester City, but if they are able to beat Manchester City at the weekend they could close that gap to just two.
