The Scot could break the mould at Leeds and actually last a while...
Often at Leeds United, fans are either with the manager or with Massimo Cellino.
Rarely are owner and head coach clumped together in the eyes of the critics.
Now, it has to be stressed that Steve Evans' results so far at Leeds have been encouraging. Overall, he can be said to be doing a good job and has plenty of supporters backing him.
There have been critics voicing their opinions lately, though. But, rather uniquely, they have been directing their scrutiny at both Cellino and Evans.
Indeed, the biggest example of divided opinion was Neil Redfearn. During his time at Leeds, many backed him over the club's owner but, ultimately, Cellino got his way.
With Evans, however, he seems very much in Cellino's camp. And, if anything, it's his constant praise of the owner that frustrates some fans.
Even opposition supporters can feel alienated by the Scot. After Saturday's 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, the Leeds head coach compared Forest's style of play to watching paint dry. Naturally, Forest fans weren't happy.
But, for once, any criticism aimed at a head coach at Elland Road might not mean a thing for his job security. Unlike so many of his predecessors, Uwe Rosler being the most recent example, Evans may actually last at United - because of his relationship with Cellino.
