Sunderland took a hard-earned point off Liverpool this weekend.
Sunderland fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday to continue their impressive fight against relegation and some of the Black Cats’ players have since responded on social media.
Sunderland looked down and out when goals from Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana put the Reds 2-0 up. But Adam Johnson and Jermain Defoe equalised for the visitors to ensure they left Anfield with another valuable point.
Sam Allardyce’s side had recently impressed against Manchester City but they finished that game on the losing side.
This time they went one better and new signing Lamine Kone took to Twitter to have his say on the result and the performance.
“One point from Liverpool,” he wrote. “Good reaction in the last 10 minutes. 1800 crazy fans to help us, merci!”
Kone has looked brilliant since arriving at Sunderland last month and on this evidence he is going to be a fan favourite – and a key player – for years to come.
Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone also took to social media, writing, “Great point after a difficult game. Thanks to all the away fans”
And finally, striker Fabio Borini commented despite missing out on the match.
“The illness stopped me today but didn’t stop the lads believing we could get a result,” the Italian wrote. “Well done team.”
