Southampton 1-0 West Ham: Yoshida goal seals win despite Wanyama's red card

St Marys Southampton

Southampton picked up another win, beating West Ham United 1-0 this evening.

Southampton won their fourth game in the last five by beating West Ham United 1-0 at St. Mary's Stadium this afternoon.

The Saints went into the game having not conceded in their previous four matches, with goalkeeper Fraser Forster's return sparking defensive solidity, as seen in the 0-0 draw at Arsenal on Tuesday night.

Tonight, Southampton made it five clean sheets in a row, as Maya Yoshida's goal handed Ronald Koeman yet another win.

The Japanese defender turned the ball home from close range after good work from Sadio Mane and Victor Wanyama down the right hand side.

Southampton had to stand firm though, as midfielder Victor Wanyama was sent off yet again for a rash challenge on Dimitri Payet in the second half.

Despite having 18 shots on goal and 66% of possession, West Ham couldn't break Southampton and star goalkeeper Fraser Forster down, with the Saints edging a 1-0 win.

The result pushes Southampton up into seventh place, just two points behind West Ham after a superb run of form.
