One goal, one assist: Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino excels against Sunderland

The Brazilian striker continued his fine recent form in the 2-2 draw.

Liverpool star Roberto Firmino enjoyed a fine afternoon for Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday, despite his side’s disappointing 2-2 draw with Sunderland.

Liverpool had looked set to secure all three points from the relegation threatened Black Cats, before a mistake from Simon Mignolet allowed Adam Johnson to pull one back.

Jermain Defoe then struck late on to secure a highly valuable point for his side and leave Jurgen Klopp disappointed once again with his side’s defensive display.

One player whose performance will not have upset him though is Firmino, with him putting in a committed display at Anfield.

As illustrated by the table provided by Opta, the Brazilian was heavily involved as he threatened the Black Cats defence throughout.

He posted 78 touches, with just two of those unsuccessful, 47 accurate passes, two successful take-ons and an impressive passing accuracy of 83%.

The two most crucial stats are in the goals and assists columns though, with him managing one in each as he played a major role in both of his side’s goals.

Those two continued his fine form in front of goals for the Reds of late, with him having been involved in seven goals in his last five games.

Klopp’s side will be hoping he can maintain that type of form for the rest of the season, with him finally starting to look like the player they paid big money for in the summer.
