Former West Ham striker Marlon Harewood has high praise for unsung hero James Collins

The Hammers defender has been excellent this season.

West Ham United have been in great form this season and are flying high in the Premier League as a consequence.

Plenty of Hammers players have taken the plaudits - with summer signing Dimitri Payet just one of them.

But whilst the attacking guile of the Frenchman may be the most eye-catching player to talk about, credit is certainly due for West Ham defender James Collins.

The Welsh defender looked like being on his way out of the club earlier in the season, especially when his former boss Sam Allardyce took over at Sunderland.

But he has become a regular again at Upton Park and has been performing exceptionally well over the past few months.

One man who has spoke highly of him this weekend is Marlon Harewood. The 36-year-old forward has been discussing his time at West Ham, where he played for four years earlier in his career.

Speaking to the West Ham website he mentioned just how well he felt Collins has played recently:

"What more can you say about James Collins. He keeps the lads together and how he is still performing at the highest level is a tribute to all the senior players.

"He is so consistent every week and is a great player."

The Welsh defender has certainly been an uncompromising figure in the West Ham team and the way he has turned his fortunes on their head is inspiring for the rest of the players at the club.
