BBC pundit’s emphatic response when asked if Aberdeen can win Premiership title

Aberdeen are challenging Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season.

Chris Sutton has told BBC Sport that Aberdeen will not win the Scottish Premiership title this season.

Aberdeen are second in the league table at the moment with 52 points from 24 matches.

Derek McInnes’s side are just three points behind leaders Celtic and are certainly in the running for the league title.

Former Celtic striker Sutton, though, does not believe that Aberdeen can go all the way.

When asked by BBC Sport if Aberdeen can win the Scottish Premiership title this season, the Englishman said emphatically: "No. Absolutely not.

"I thought they were decent the other night but Celtic will get the big guns back. Celtic have the biggest budget by far.”

Celtic have won the league title in Scotland for the last four seasons, and they remain the favourites to clinch it this term.

Ronny Deila’s side’s performances and results in their last past two games were disappointing, but the Glasgow giants have the best players and the best squad in the Scottish top flight.

Aberdeen, though, will give the Hoops a run for their money. A three-point gap is not a big one, and one suspects that the players will be determined to close it even further.
