BBC pundit Mark Lawrenson predicts Newcastle United v West Bromwich Albion

Mark Lawrenson believes Newcastle United will beat West Brom 2-1 today.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Newcastle United will beat West Bromwich Albion 2-1 this afternoon.

The Magpies head into the game having been hammered 3-0 away at Everton on Wednesday night, and manager Steve McClaren has a host of defensive woes coming out of that game.

Centre back Chancel Mbemba and left back Paul Dummett both limped off and will miss tonight's game, whilst Jamaal Lascelles was sent off late on and will be ruled out too.

With Newcastle sitting two points adrift of safety, they need to pick up wins quickly, and they take on West Bromwich Albion at St. James' Park this afternoon.

The Baggies have been solid if uninspiring this season, and rescued a point against Swansea on Tuesday night with a last-gasp equaliser from Salomon Rondon in a 1-1 draw.

Tony Pulis' men sit eight points clear of the drop zone, but still need to pick up a few points before they can be considered as safe from the drop, with today's game a great chance to pull even further away from the bottom three.

Pundit Mark Lawrenson has told BBC Sport that he thinks Newcastle will build on their last home win over West Ham United by beating West Brom 2-1 today, despite being beaten so convincingly by Everton just days ago.

"It sounded like Newcastle were rolled over far too easily by Everton on Wednesday but West Brom are also on a poor recent run," said Lawrenson. "The Baggies are wobbling because goals are a problem for them, and Newcastle are generally better at home," he added.
