Leeds lost 1-0 to Forest at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.
Indeed, Forest left Leeds with a 1-0 win in the Championship, disappointing Elland Road with a second-half winner.
But neither former striker Whelan nor current head coach Evans were left enamoured by Nottingham Forest's style of play.
They accused Dougie Freedman's men of being a little bit boring, with the pundit saying he can see why Forest draw so many games and Evans comparing the Midlands outfit to paint drying.
Whelan told the BBC: "I can see why they've drawn so many games. It's not great to watch."
And Evans is quoted as saying: "It was like watching paint dry but I'd rather be watching my team winning."
Yorkshire Evening Post writer Phil Hay then confirmed the Leeds head coach was indeed discussing Nottingham Forest, at the same time highlighting a flaw with the Scot's theory...
The "paint drying" accusation against Forest is weird - everyone's counter attacking these days, including Leeds at Bolton.— Phil Hay (@PhilHayYEP) February 6, 2016
The Leeds result confirms the Whites are nowhere near ready to bid for the play-offs and simply need to consolidate this season. Nottingham Forest, however, are on a very promising run indeed.
