Joleon Lescott and Gabby Agbonlahor struck either side of half-time to seal Remi Garde's men a 2-0 victory at Villa Park.
Mark Bunn 6/10 – Picked up his third shutout in five league games but didn’t have a lot to do in truth. Nonetheless, the defence does look much more confident with him between the posts.
Micah Richards 6.5/10 – Not much of an attacking outlet but a better defensive option than either Alan Hutton or Bacuna.
Jores Okore 8/10 – An absolute rock at the back, making a match-leading 14 clearances, including one off the goal-line during the final 10 minutes.
Joleon Lescott 7.5/10 – Headed in the opener just before the break, while recording nine clearances and winning five aerial duels to help keep a clean sheet.
Aly Cissokho 7/10 – Solid at the back and had some good moments going forward – even if his crossing did leave a lot to be desired.
Leandro Bacuna 5.5/10 – Seems a bit lost in a central midfield role. Should have put the game to bed in the 70th-minute but blasted a glaring chance over the bar.
Idrissa Gana 8.5/10 – Energy – lots of it. Seemed to be absolutely everywhere from start to finish, chalking up five tackles and eight interceptions, while also completing 85% percent of his match-leading 59 passes.
Ashley Westwood 6.5/10 – Typically unflashy but kept things ticking over nicely in midfield with his passing and disciplined positioning, which allowed Gana to thrive alongside him.
Jordan Veretout 7/10 – Full of running and showed great vision to pick out Agbonlahor for his goal five minutes after the break.
Carles Gil 7/10 – A very bright first half – aside from a few sloppy passes – culminated with his free-kick finding Lescott for the first. His decision making did seem to waver a bit after the break but his effort was outstanding throughout.
Gabby Agbonlahor 7/10 – Didn’t see a great deal of the ball but looked much sharper and took his finish well. Work rate can’t be faulted either.
