Ambitious Alex Song makes bold prediction on what West Ham can achieve

West Ham United midfielder Alex Song has been talking about where he thinks the club can finish this season.

Confidence is high in the Hammers squad with the club sitting sixth in the Premier League table with one eye on the Champions League places.

And Slaven Bilic has been boosted in recent weeks by Song's return to top form following a long battle back to fitness from an injury which kept him out for the first part of the season.

The on loan Barcelona star was immense in back-to-back draws against Manchester City and then Liverpool in the FA Cup before another man of the match performance in the 2-0 win over Aston Villa last time out.

'We can get more'

With a five-point gap opened up on the team they face on Saturday, Southampton, Song has told the club's official website sixth place should not be the limit of his side's ambition.

"We can get more (than sixth place) you know, it depends on how we manage the games," Song told

"The way we are doing it at the moment, we are doing very well, we have to just keep taking it game by game.

"We have to just go step by step, I think we can get something very good this year because the way we are playing.

"If you look at last year and (compared to) this year and how we handled the Christmas period, we are much stronger, and at the end of the season you will see how we'll be (near) the top."

Going under the radar

The Hammers have been one of the surprise packages of the season and taken some big scalps along the way.

They are very much living in the shadow of the likes of Leicester City and bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur, though, given their own fine seasons.

But Slaven Bilic's side are only six points off Arsenal in fourth place and could close that gap to three by Saturday night with a win at St Mary's as the Gunners travel to in-form Bournemouth on Sunday.

Whether they can mount a serious challenge for the top four remains to be seen but a place in the top six and likely Europa League football would still be a major achievement for a club very much heading in the right direction.
