Former Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood has told talkSPORT that Liverpool need to play Christian Benteke more regularly.
The 25-year-old striker has managed to score just six goals and has created 23 chances in 21 Premier League games so far this season.
Sherwood, who managed the Belgium international at Villa last season, has advised Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to play Benteke more regularly.
“Klopp isn’t playing Christian on a regular basis, and he seems fit enough, so it seems that he isn’t totally sure about the lad,” the former Tottenham Hotspur boss told talkSPORT.
“For me he’s a great player. He’s a proven, prolific goalscorer in the Premier League. He’s a one-in-two, he’s a great target man and he needs to play with a rhythm.
“There’s no point in playing him in one game and he’s out the next. All strikers need to play regularly to produce their best.”
Liverpool are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with 34 points from 24 matches.
The Merseyside outfit are 11 points behind Arsenal, who are currently fourth and occupy the final Champions League spot.
Benteke has proved himself in the Premier League, but the problem is that he is probably not suited to the way that Klopp wants to play at Liverpool.
