Former Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage predicted on the BBC Radio 5 live 606 show on Saturday evening (January 30) that Liverpool will not win the Europa League this season.
"I can understand Liverpool playing a weakened team to a point if they have a serious chance of getting into the top four, which would be a priority," said Savage. "I don’t think they are going to finish in the top four.
"They are in the Capital One Cup final - that's only one more game - and they are in the Europa League, which I don't think they are going to win, so why not try to win the FA Cup?"
Liverpool will take on FC Augsburg in the round of 32 of the Europa League. The Reds will head into the two-legged tie against the German club as favourites and should be able to progress to the last 16.
There are a number of teams in the Europa League who are better than Liverpool. Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund, Fiorentina, Tottenham Hotspur, Sevilla and Napoli are all better than the Reds.
However, in knockout rounds, anything is possible, and Liverpool’s chances of winning the Europa League should not be written off just now. After all, it will all depend on how the Reds play on the day in the Europa League.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are eighth in the Premier League table at the moment with 34 points from 24 matches, 11 points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
