Report: Newcastle would consider Moyes and Pulis if McClaren is sacked

Steve McClaren

Newcastle take on West Bromwich Albion this weekend.

Newcastle will consider David Moyes and Tony Pulis if Steve McClaren is sacked, the Mail reports.

The Magpies take on West Brom this weekend, with Pulis coming up against McClaren at St James’ Park.

Whilst McClaren is not yet under intense pressure, another defeat this weekend could push him to the brink of losing his job on Tyneside, especially as Newcastle spent heavily in the January transfer window.

Pulis could directly lead to the sacking of McClaren, with Mike Ashley having the Welshman lined up as one of the managers he would bring to St James’ Park as the current head coach’s replacement.

Pulis and Moyes are the two candidates that Ashley will consider hiring, having had a long-term interest in the pair.

Pulis brings an almost guarantee of Premier League survival, although West Brom would be against losing him due to their own top flight status being slightly under threat.

Moyes also has a similar reputation, having worked wonders with Everton, although Ashley prefers Pulis as he has more recent experience of a Premier League relegation battle.

There have not yet been any moves to sack McClaren, but another defeat will put more pressure on his head, and Pulis and Moyes will be waiting in line to move to St James’ Park.
