Report: Everton to offer Bryan Oviedo new contract

Everton

Everton defender Bryan Oviedo was reportedly of interest to Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion in the January transfer window.

According to a report in the Daily Mirror, Bryan Oviedo is set to be handed a new contract by Everton.

Oviedo's current deal expires at the end of the season, but Everton intend to activate his one-year extension clause.

Although the Costa Rican has not played much of a part this term, Roberto Martinez apparently feels that the 25-year-old’s versatility is vital to his squad.

Oviedo is comfortable at either right-back or left-back, and he can also play in midfield - making him a valuable player, as cover.

Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion had enquired to sign Oviedo on loan in January (Daily Mail), but Martinez rebuffed both club’s attempts proving his faith in the defender.

The former Copenhagen man made just his sixth Premier League appearance of the season in midweek against Newcastle United.

In that fixture Everton picked up a comfortable 3-0 victory, which has moved them up into 11th place in the top-flight standings.
