Ossie Ardiles has shared his thoughts on Newcastle’s current troubles.
The Spurs legend spent 12 months at St James’ Park, although his time was not a success. By the time he was sacked, the Magpies were sitting bottom of the second division, and they enjoyed much better fortunes under Ardiles’ replacement Kevin Keegan.
Still, his time at the club had an impact upon him, and he is remembered fairly fondly by the supporters for the fantastic football the Magpies played during his tenure.
Seeing the Magpies in their current predicament cannot be good for anyone previously involved with the club, and Ardiles has admitted that he wants to see Newcastle survive in the Premier League this season.
After 24 games, the Tyneside club are currently sitting in 18th place in the table, two points behind Norwich City in the final safe position.
They lost to Everton in midweek, and despite spending a vast sum of money in the January transfer window, their squad does not look in great health.
Another loss this weekend, to West Brom, could cut them five points adrift of safety, and it would be hard to imagine that Steve McClaren will be able to lead them to Premier League survive from that position.
