If you had not heard of Jiangsu Suning before this past month, you may be forgiven for wondering if new signing Alex Teixeira knew of them either.
Yet against the odds, the in-demand Brazilian striker has clinched a big money move to the Chinese side, leaving Shakhtar Donetsk.
Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu confirmed to ESPN Brasil that the sale has been approved by the club.
He said: "We agreed the sale of Alex Teixeira to China, but we will wait a bit to give as finalised because of the situation of (Luiz) Adriano. But is closed from our side, yes."
Luiz Adriano came close to moving to China before a deal fell through, but Alex Teixeira's switch is considered practically done.
Liverpool made attempts to sign Alex Teixeira in January, offering £24 million to sign the striker, who has netted 22 goals in 16 games this season, SkySports reported.
Teixeira would have been an excellent addition for the Reds, but instead he will go down another mid-season nearly man that they have failed to clinch the signing of in recent seasons, like Mohamed Salah and Yevhen Konoplyanka.
Here is a look at how Liverpool fans have reacted to Teixeira's move...
Alex Teixeira wanted to improve his chances of playing for Brazil so he did the natural thing and moved to China. #LFC— Profondo Rosso (@Pounds_Sterling) February 4, 2016
Seems that Alex Teixeira is money driven player , not the type we need at #LFC we needs players that play for the club not the cash— Matthew McCaughan (@Mccaughan95) February 4, 2016
Teixeira off to China for 50mil €... Football is dead. #lfc— Serbian Red LFC (@YNWA_Serbia) February 4, 2016
If Teixeira goes to China it wouldn't surprise me if he has a £25m release clause in his new contract..... So Chelsea can sign him. #LFC— Mo (@CoutinOhOhOh) February 4, 2016
Teixeira dreamed of playing with Coutinho again ? What does he expect now? For Coutinho to hop on the next jet to China and sign on?? #LFC— Anthony (@AnthonyJJ23) February 4, 2016
